Carnival, Part 2
The second carnival we went to had these amazing huge figures on the floats. I wasn't sure what they were all supposed to represent (political figures, sports teams, popular people in the media?), but they were quite entertaining:

A very expressive bee in her flower:

Masks:

This huge blimp with a face would descend into the crowd to say "hi" before swooping up again:

Silly string is VERY popular during Carnival, with kids and adults alike spraying it EVERYWHERE. So, of course we had to get some:

I don't know who came out the worst in this battle-- Bob, his Dad or our son!

Walking home on the beach:

Farewell, Nice! We will miss you!

Carnival, Part 1
While in Nice, we got to go to their version of the
Carnival. In Nice, the Carnival is more child-friendly than the Venice festivities. We saw several parades. Here are some pictures from the flower parade, where the elaborately dressed participants throw flowers from their floats to the spectators. By the end of the parade, the structures of the floats had been completely divested of all their flowers, and lots of people had nice bouquets to take home with them!

And it continued into the night:

The next parade had giant eleaborate papier-mache-type figures. I'll post Carnival, Part 2 soon!

Cannes
Our day trip to
Cannes was great fun. We didn't see any
stars (wrong time of year), but that's ok. At the market:

Monaco
We took a bus from Nice out to
Monaco, which was a pretty cool place to wander around for the day.
I loved this old wall:

The city:

Two guards:

They really loved their cannons in Monaco:

Here is the side of one:

There was this large frame in the middle of nowhere, with a view to the sea. Pretty cool.

NICE!
As it is almost time for our trip to end :(, I better get busy posting pictures! Here is the view that greeted us soon after we arrived in
Nice-- on the
Promenade des Anglais. I love walking (and rollerblading) down by the water.

At the chocolate shop (yum!). The French sure understand the importance of chocolate to life:

My son enjoys the chocolate shop as well:

At the
Marche aux Fleurs (Flower market, open every morning), a vendor sells olive oil,

Our son buys a necklace,

And we enjoy the yummy-looking spices and herbs:

This one I call "talking heads"-- they were quite creative at the hat store:

We also took day trips to Monaco and Cannes and spent a couple nights in Genoa, Italy. I will post more pictures soon!

Lina and Jeff
We went over to
Ailki Beach for an engagement session with the adorable Lina and Jeff, getting married July 14th. We really enjoyed photographing you guys and are looking forward to your wedding!

Happy Anniversary, Betsy and Josh!
It's hard to imagine that it has been a year since Betsy and Josh's wedding. It was the first full wedding that I published in this blog. Josh and Betsy were a dream couple, easy going and enjoying their day, as well as ultra-cute together.

Congratulations on your one-year anniversary, Betsy and Josh!

Laura and John
Laura and John were such a goofy, fun, loving couple that it was a pleasure to spend time with them. We photographed their engagement session at our very own
Matthews Beach Park, which also allowed us to do some shots first at our home studio:

On the playground (they were such good sports):

Having a romantic moment on the path in the park:

We can't wait for your wedding on September 22nd, Laura and John-- I know it's going to be lots of fun.
