Favorite Family
We got to hang out with our favortist family in the world, David and Ken and their daughter, for some Halloween fun and family portraits, back in October.

Hill Family
We got to spend some time with the Hill family on the University of Washington campus one beautiful fall day. This is my favorite type of family session, where the family enjoys hanging out together, and we get to capture their relationships (and kids being kids).

Aren't these children adorable?!

I love this picture Bob took of the whole family together:

Pre-Owned Dresses
Happy Inauguration Day, everyone!
Check out the contest that Pre-Owned Dresses is having right now, and you could win a free wedding dress!
Pre-Owned Wedding Dresses
They have a really amazing selection of dresses on the site, and some have not even been worn before. In buying pre-owned, you are not only saving money, but also doing something
"green".
Falling in Love
“The difference you see in my photographs is that I was not afraid to fall in love with my subjects.”
Annie Leibovitz
So, I've been reading a book that I got for Christmas about the life of Annie Leibovitz, and it's really interesting (thanks, David!). I've always loved this quote by her. It is definitely something that happens to me. Sometimes at a wedding, there is this great synergy of energy and you can feel the love so strongly. I almost always fall in love a little bit with my brides, and their beauty. The beauty of love, the beauty of happiness, the beauty of meaning.
One photographer whose blog I follow who is totally inspiring in this regard is Jesh de Rox. He always has a way of thinking so positively, and finding meaning everywhere. But I think it is a necessary perspective of a wedding photographer, to be able to see all the beauty in its various forms at a wedding and to be to translate it into the pictures. I feel lucky to have a job where I get to participate in and "capture" some of that energy. And to immortalize it, in as far as that is possible.
As we head into 2009, I hope that the year brings you and your families all the love and happiness in the world!

Liz and Mike, November 1st
Mike and my cousin Liz had a long way to go to be together. Liz grew up in Washington, Mike in NY. They met online and fell in love. Although young, they knew they were meant to be together. Their wedding was not elaborate, but it was genuine and full of love and community. They had to overcome so many obstacles to finally be together, and that made their union so much sweeter.
They had their ceremony and reception at the
May Memorial Unitarian Universalist Society in Syracuse, New York.
Mike hangs out with his sister (his "best woman") before the wedding:

You might remember my sister from previous pictures I have posted of her on the blog. She sang beautifully at the wedding:

Stacy and Bob, September 20th
Stacy and Bob had a very sweet ceremony and reception at their church, the NS Church of the Nazarene, and downtown at the
Edgewater hotel. Although they seemed nervous beforehand, when the big day arrived, they were so relaxed and happy.

Some couple time:

Stacy had been excited about renting a vintage car for their ride from the ceremony to the reception, but Bob had initially nixed the idea. However, he decided to surprise her on their wedding day, and rented a car from
British Motor Coach, Inc.-- it was so sweet (fun pictures too!):

Everyone enjoyed the reception:

Stacy's son gave one of the best speeches I have ever heard at a wedding, and he is only 15!

Stacy and Bob
We got to hang out with Stacy and Bob shortly before their wedding, at
Richmond Beach Park. They brought her son and their dog, and we had a really fun session:
